Maybe I'm just a poet who tries to write some songs                                                                                  They tell me to go for it you never know what can go wrong                                                                          Maybe I'm just a poet who can keep it all in rhyme                                                                                    Got rhythm just don't show it all the time 

Maybe I'm just a parodist trying to write some prose                                                                                      Thinking like a satirist about the war with us and those                                                                                    It's said I'm just a poet living from verse to verse  

I can make it rhyme ... I can keep it in time                                                                                                  But when I add the music, will it make you feel like dancin'                                                                      Can I get you dancin' all night long

Embarking on my memoirs What a novel idea

I'll write an editorial that will bore you to tears                                                                                          You'll want an epidural to alleviate your fears                                                                                                I'll be just a poet so I'll be free and clear
