Mac Gollehon started out by playing with country bands at the age of 10 in his home of North Carolina. By age 13 he played the circus with bandleader Merle Evans. In high school, he played with a variety of bands, as well as the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra. At age 18 he went to Berklee College of Music and played the club circuit at night. During the summers he played with jazz legends like Buddy Morrow as well as Buddy Rich.

In 1979 Gollehon moved to New York City and was introduced to Miles Davis through a mutual friend, Davis gave Gollehon the nickname 'Chops'. It was around this time that he started to impress New York producers like Nile RodgersArif Mardin, and Mike Chapman. He was noted for his ability to come up with arrangements on the fly, as was the standard in New York City at that time. Through gradually building his name on this scene he found himself working with the likes of Mick Jagger and Bruce Springsteen. Mac Gollehon also found himself as a longtime member of his musical hero Lester Bowie's group Brass Fantasy. This same period Gollehon found himself touring with many of the artists who he met in the studio. This led to extended stints with groups such as Duran DuranHall & Oates and Chaka Khan.He found himself on literally thousands of recordings and on dozens of Top 40 singles.

Susan Mitchell is a NYC-born violinist who has also performed on viola and cello. Classically-(conservatory)-trained - her orchestral experience includes several years playing First Violin with the TRICITIES OPERA, many symphony orchestras, and most recently, several concerts @ Jazz @ Lincoln center with the Leon Lacey orchestra; backing up gospel artist Kim Burrell. She performs with the popular Paul Joseph jazz quartet. Her eclectic musical tastes have led her to study and perform a broad range of musical genres and styles, encompassing jazz-from Gypsy swing to bebop, ethnic/world music including Greek, klezmer, Russian gypsy, Celtic, Latin-salsa to tangos, Indian ragas, Cajun, Persian, Bluegrass, zydeco, and Norwegian hardanger fiddle. She has toured Europe and performed with several rock bands; from Goth to alternative to New Orleans blues. You might see her playing an elegant classical function at the Waldorf Hotel, and sitting in at a jazz session downtown at 2am the same night. She has recorded and improvised original music on several soundtracks, and has appeared in many films/tv as a musician and actress, including Confessions of a Shopaholic, El Cantante, August Rush, Sex & the City, Love Monkey, Ed, C.I., Law and Order, and Kings, among others.

Stefan Paoilini is a pianist and educator. His musical expertise includes classical, jazz, rock, and pop music, as well as many others. His eclectic tastes have led him to learn to appreciate a wide range of styles. He's performed in such groups as progressive rock band Edensong (whose release "Years in the Garden of Years" is recommended by Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull), Baroque pop group of "Walk Away Renee" fame, The Left Banke, as well as a wide array of jazz combos, jam bands, and a host of others. He has taught piano lessons to literally hundreds over nearly twenty years and has a deep passion for helping others achieve their goals, widening their understanding, appreciation, and capacity for personal expression.

Val Kinzler is an undeniable major force in the women in music scene. Whether through her own stamped soulful jazz, blues and rock songwriting or piano, guitar playing and vocals for her own band, Val Kinzler Band (VKB) or commitment to shed the spotlight on underserved women in rock in her event series, NYC Women Who Rock, Val has it going on and has been doing so for the entirety of her music career.

A polished, professional musician from the start of hitting the piano at age 5 and soon after picking up the guitar; then later a student of jazz piano at Berklee, “Valkyrie” has received multiple songwriting awards and recognition in the industry for her musical talents, including: Martin Guitars Scholarship (C.F. Martin), 1st place Recording Artists Development singer songwriter competition and Top 50 - John Lennon Songwriting Contest.

Val’s musical catalog of original songs and collaborations with top artists in nothing short of A-list: Val has opened for and/or shared the stage with Dr. John, Marty Balin, Three Dog Night, Johnny Johnson, Jon Paris, Danny Burns, Robert Gordon and was also chosen to open for B B King. Her CD “Resume” was conceptualized and recorded with Producer Larry Rusell (Billy Joel, Mama’s and Papas, Bryan Adams) Her “True Love Lies” collection included Popa Chubby who played lead guitar and shared in co-production.Val’s infamous “East Third Street” record was produced by Genya Ravan who also sang background vocals.  In this it was her pop ballad “Love Won’t Break” which placed in the 1998 John Lennon Songwriting Contest. In her current band, VKB (Val Kinzler Band) Val writes and plays along well-known musicians -- Joseph Vasta (Mink De Ville, Billy Idol, Joan Jett, John Waite), David White (The Hollies, Stumblebunny) and Ihle Factor (Ian Lloyd, John Ford).

In listening to her lineage of music, you will hear Val’s theatrical edge which she has used to create her own soulful sound incorporating rock, rhythm and blues. Val shares a lifetime of joy, pain, love, and loss in her lyrics. Her emotional music has been embraced across her fans, fellow musicians, the music industry, and the women in music she touches daily in her NYC Women Who Rock online community and organized concerts.

Val doesn’t stop there. Directly after 9/11 she felt a calling to use music for positive change in the NYC educational community. It was then that she created her own  “Music Cool” songwriting program for the New York City public school system.

Teaching tolerance, and peaceful conflict resolution skills through role play, Val organized anti-bullying campaigns, attained several grants through Newsday’s Future Corps, recorded a peer leadership CD, ran  workshops and was asked to present her program to all 25 prevention program directors at the regional offices of the D.O.E.  Val’s Music Cool World “Silence The Violence” concert was recorded live and featured alongside “Sesame Street” and “Songs of Love” on NYC radio’s WFUV’s City Scape Program.

Today Val effectively balances the creation and production of her own music in her band, VKB , ongoing events for other women in rock music in NYC to share the stage and the provision of “edutainment” to the musical youth in her community.
